The reciter: And Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: I read to Malik from Nafi' and Abdullah ibn Dinar from Ibn 'Umar:
That a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the night prayer, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The night prayer is in pairs. When one of you fears the dawn, let him pray one rak'ah to make odd what he has already prayed. أن رجلا سأل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم عن صلاة الليل فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم: صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى فإذا خشي أحدكم الصبح صلى ركعة واحدة توتر له ما قد صلى
