If one wakes up late, should he go to the mosque to catch the sermon, or should he take a bath even if he misses it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person wakes up a little before the adhan, should he perform wudu and go to the mosque to catch the khutbah, or should he take a bath?

The Shaykh : He should take a bath from janabah, even if he misses the khutbah.

The questioner : If he is not in a state of janabah.

The Shaykh : If he is not in a state of janabah, he does not go to the khutbah, because the khutbah is intended for its own sake. For this reason, 'Umar did not order 'Uthman to go and take a bath; he left him as he was, even though he was in the middle of the khutbah.

The questioner : And would he be sinful, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : He is sleeping. And if the prayer is excused for the sleeper, and he prays it when he wakes up, then this is even more so.
