The reader: And Muhammad ibn Rafi' narrated to me, and 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, and Ibn Jurayj informed us, and 'Ata' informed me Sahih Muslim 886b.
The Shaykh : In this is evidence of the obedience of the previous caliphs to what the Sunnah indicated, for Ibn 'Abbas wrote to Ibn al-Zubayr clarifying to him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not make the call to prayer for the festival prayer, so he did not make the call for it. And he also used to give the sermon after the prayer, so he would precede the prayer, and he did so.
And in it is evidence of correspondence between the subjects and the ruler, and that it is obligatory for the subjects, when the need arises, to write to him, in order to establish the proof and to clear the conscience. And when a person writes with a good intention, not with the intention of criticism, blame, or condemnation, then Allah places a blessing in his writing.
'Ata' reported that Ibn 'Abbas sent (him) to Ibn Zubair at the commencement of the oath of allegiance to him (for Caliphate saying): As there is no Adhan on 'Id-ul-Fitr, so you should not pronounce it. Ibn Zubair did not pronounce Adhan on that day. He (Ibn 'Abbas) also sent him (with this message) that sermon (is to be delivered) after the prayer, and thus it was done. So lbn Zubair observed prayer before Khutba.
