Was the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer for the eclipse out of fear that it might be a punishment?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Was the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer during the eclipse out of fear that this event might be accompanied by a punishment?

The Shaykh : No, rather he feared it. There is no doubt that he feared it. If the Messenger, upon seeing clouds and overcast skies, said, “I fear it may be a punishment,” then this is all the more so.

The questioner : If someone were to say that these are cosmic astronomical movements and there is nothing to them...

The Shaykh : We say this is like the saying of the disbelievers:
And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up." وإن يروا كسفاً من السماء ساقطاً يقولوا سحاب مركوم
