The reciter: And Amr al-Naqqad narrated to me, and 'Affan ibn Muslim narrated to us, and Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas,
That when 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was stabbed, Hafsa wailed over him. He said: "O Hafsa, have you not heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The one over whom wailing is done will be punished'?" And Suhayb wailed over him, so 'Umar said: "O Suhayb, do you not know that the one over whom wailing is done will be punished?" أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، لَمَّا طُعِنَ عَوَّلَتْ عَلَيْهِ حَفْصَةُ، فَقَالَ: يَا حَفْصَةُ أَمَا سَمِعْتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: الْمُعَوَّلُ عَلَيْهِ يُعَذَّبُ؟ وَعَوَّلَ عَلَيْهِ صُهَيْبٌ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: يَا صُهَيْبُ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْمُعَوَّلَ عَلَيْهِ يُعَذَّبُ؟
