He says that he enters some mosques during the times of prayer and prays behind the imam with the Muslim brothers, and he finds that the imam moves at times

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says that he enters some mosques during the times of prayer and prays behind the imam with the Muslim brothers, and he finds that the imam moves at times without an excuse. When he sees that, his chest tightens and thoughts go through his head. Is it permissible for him to move in prayer, or is moving not in accordance with the Shari'ah? Please inform us. May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Movement in prayer is divided into five categories: obligatory movement, which is that upon which an obligatory act in prayer depends.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : For example, if a person is praying in a direction other than the qiblah, and someone comes to inform him that the qiblah is to his right or left, he must move toward the qiblah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And among that is "what the people of the mosque of Quba did when a man came to them during the Fajr prayer and informed them that the qiblah had been turned from the House of the Sacred to the Ka'bah, so they turned toward the Ka'bah, and their faces had been toward Sham" This is the obligatory movement.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And recommended movement, which is that upon which a recommended act in prayer depends, such as moving to close a gap in the row.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Whether the gap is in front of him, to his right, or to his left, he should move closer to his neighbor and advance to the row in front of him to close the gap; this is recommended.
The third is permissible movement, which is slight movement if it is for a need.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Such as what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did when he prayed with his Companions while carrying Amamah, the daughter of Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and her father was Abu al-As ibn al-Rabi'. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying while carrying this girl; when he stood, he carried her, and when he prostrated or bowed, he placed her on the ground. This is permissible.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And from this category of permissible is also when movement is frequent but out of dire necessity, as in the saying of Allah the Exalted
And if you fear [an enemy, then pray] on foot or riding فإن خفتم فرجالاً أو ركباناً
[Al-Baqarah 2:239]
meaning, so pray even if you are walking on your feet or riding.
The fourth category is forbidden movement, which is excessive movement that invalidates the prayer without dire necessity. If a person moves excessively to the extent that it contradicts the prayer due to its frequency and continuity, and without dire necessity, then his prayer is invalid, for it is forbidden and invalidates the prayer.
The fifth is disliked movement, which is slight movement without a need. This is often found among worshippers; you find them moving a lot without a need. This one adjusts his garment, this one looks at his watch, this one takes out his pen, this one fiddles with his nose or his beard, and the like of these movements that are often seen. These are disliked, and if they become frequent and continuous, they invalidate the prayer and become forbidden. So the Muslim worshipper should be mindful that he is standing before Allah (Mighty and Majestic), so that there is in his heart a sense of awe and humility that appears in his limbs.
A hadith has become well-known among people that has no basis, which is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man fiddling with his beard and said
If this were humble, his limbs would be humble لو خشع هذا لخشعت جوارحه
This hadith has no basis, and it is replaced by the authentic hadith, which is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart. ألا وإن في الجسد مضغة إذا صلحت صلح الجسد كله، وإذا فسدت فسد الجسد كله، ألا وهي القلب
Sahih al-Bukhari 52
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And humility is part of righteousness, so if the heart is humble, the limbs are humble, for they follow it. Yes.

The questioner : From Algeria, we received a message from listener H B T, in which he says, after the greeting, I wish you continued health and well-being.
