The reciter:
Abu Huraira said that God’s messenger prayed over a bier, then went to the grave and threw three handfuls of earth towards the head of the dead man. Ibn Majah transmitted it.
Mishkat al-Masabih 1720
Al-Shaybani said: So I asked al-Sha'bi: Who narrated this to you? He said: The trustworthy 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas. This is the wording of a good hadith. And in the narration of Ibn Numayr, it is said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a fresh grave, so he prayed over it, and they formed rows behind him, and he said the takbir four times.
I asked 'Amir: Who narrated this to you? He said: The trustworthy one who witnessed it was Ibn 'Abbas.

The Shaykh : This concerns the ruling on praying over a grave. Praying over a grave is established by the Sunnah. A woman who used to clean the mosque—meaning she removed the trash—died at night. They disliked informing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it at night, and it seems they diminished her status. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked about her, they informed him. He said: "Show me her grave." They showed it to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He went out and prayed over her, and they prayed behind him, and he said the takbir over her four times, just as the takbir is said over a funeral before burial.
