The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, and Ghundar narrated from Shu'bah. And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Ibn Bashshar said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, and Shu'bah narrated from Amr ibn Murrah from Ibn Abi Layla,
That Qays ibn Sa'd and Sahl ibn Hunayf were at al-Qadisiyyah when a funeral procession passed by them, so they stood up. It was said to them: "It is from the people of the land." They said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had a funeral procession pass by him, so he stood up. It was said to him: 'It is a Jew.' He said: 'Is it not a soul?'"
أَنَّ قَيْسَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ، وَسَهْلَ بْنَ حُنَيْفٍ، كَانَا بِالْقَادِسِيَّةِ فَمَرَّتْ بِهِمَا جَنَازَةٌ فَقَامَا، فَقِيلَ لَهُمَا: إِنَّهَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ، فَقَالَا: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتْ بِهِ جَنَازَةٌ، فَقَامَ فَقِيلَ: إِنَّهُ يَهُودِيٌّ، فَقَالَ: أَلَيْسَتْ نَفْسًا
