The Book of Hajj-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: I read to Malik, from Musa ibn 'Uqbah, from Salim ibn 'Abd Allah, that he heard his father (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "Your open plains in which you lie about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are these
The Messenger of Allah did not start the Talbiyah except from near the Masjid ما أهل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، إلا من عند المسجد
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 818Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning Dhul-Hulayfah."

The Shaykh : Yes, the open plain: it is the land that is empty of vegetation and buildings and the like, which is vast. Among those who said this was Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both) in his long hadith: "Until his camel stood on the open plain, he began the talbiyah with the declaration of the oneness of Allah, and the people followed him in that." And it is "the open plain" a place before Dhul-Hulayfah, but it is adjacent to it. The people used to say: "Do not begin the talbiyah except from the open plain," based on the hadith of Jabir.
As for the statement of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)
You lie تكذبون
, lying in the Arabic language is reporting something contrary to reality, whether due to forgetfulness, mistake, or intention. However, the sin lies in lying intentionally. Therefore, do not find it strange that Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said in this matter: "You lie about the Messenger of Allah," because they did not do it intentionally. Rather, they heard the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) begin the talbiyah with the declaration of the oneness of Allah when his camel stood on the open plain, and they did not say that he did not begin it before that. This is what they heard. The hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) has passed us, in which he reconciled the differing narrations on this matter by stating that every person reported what he had heard.
