The reciter: Yahya ibn Yahya, Yahya ibn Ayyub, Qutaybah ibn Sa'id, and Ali ibn Hujayy narrated to us. Yahya said: He informed us, and the others said: He narrated to us. Isma'il ibn Ja'far, from Abdullah ibn Dinar, that he heard Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) say: Sahih Muslim 1182d. And Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said: And I was informed that he said: Muwatta Malik 20:25.
The Shaykh : The wording here: "ordered them to declare their intention," "declare their intention," and "declared their intention"—all of these are variations by the narrators. It is possible that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) narrated it this way once and that way another time. In either case, it indicates that the narrators of the hadith are transmitting it by meaning. This is like the hadith agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, as it has passed through al-Bukhari and Muslim as well.
