The Book of Hajj-08b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: 'Abathar informed us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Wabra, who said:
I was sitting with Ibn 'Umar when a man came to him and said: "Is it permissible for me to perform tawaf around the House before I go to the standing place?" He said: "Yes." He said: "But Ibn 'Abbas says: 'Do not perform tawaf around the House until you go to the standing place.'" Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj and performed tawaf around the House before going to the standing place. Is it not more right for you to follow the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than the saying of Ibn 'Abbas, if you are telling the truth?"
.

The Shaykh : This too, without doubt, the correct position is with Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he arrived in Makkah, performed tawaf and sa'y, and there is no doubt in this. As for the statement of Ibn 'Abbas, it is understood to refer to one who arrives in Makkah late, after the time for standing at 'Arafah has begun. In that case, we say that his maintaining the standing is more preferable than his entering Makkah to perform tawaf and sa'y, because the time is now the time for standing. If he enters Makkah and performs tawaf and sa'y, he may be delayed from this noble time, especially in their era, when there was nothing but camels or walking on foot. So what is mentioned regarding Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) is understood in this sense. Otherwise, I do not think it was hidden from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he arrived in Makkah, performed tawaf and sa'y.
