Explanation of the Book of Tawhid-07a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Sa'id ibn Sulayman narrated to us from Ibn al-Mubarak from Musa ibn 'Utbah from Salim from 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
the greatest oath the Prophet used was, “No, by Him who overturns the hearts.” أكثر ما كان النبي صلى الله عليه ولم يحلف لا ومقلب القلوب
Mishkat al-Masabih 3406
.

The Shaykh : We have previously mentioned in the chapter on oaths that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to swear by this frequently, and he used to swear by the phrase:
By Myself in My Hand والذي نفسي بيده
frequently. Who is meant by 'Abdullah here? 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar. What is the evidence? Salim. This is an example of how one can identify an ambiguous narrator by his students or his teachers. Regarding the phrase:
No, by the Turner of hearts لا ومقلب القلوب
"No, by the Turner of hearts," is this an affirmation or a negation? That is, if he did not swear, is the question one, everyone? Is it a negation of the oath or an affirmation? What do we do with it? It is for emphasis. We passed over this recently and gave examples of this in 'aqidah, other than in hadith, where the negating "la" enters the oath, and the intended meaning is affirmation, such as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
I swear by the Day of Resurrection لا أقسم بيوم القيامة
[Al-Qiyamah 75:1]
I swear by this land لا أقسم بهذا البلد
. The correct view is that this is for attention and emphasis, contrary to those who said regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted:
I swear by the Day of Resurrection لا أقسم بيوم القيامة
[Al-Qiyamah 75:1]
that it is for negation, and the meaning is that there is no truth to what you claim of denying the resurrection, or "I do not swear" because the matter does not require an oath. But the correct view is what we established first, that it is for emphasis and attention.
