Explanation of the Book of Tawhid-07a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Sa'd ibn Hafs narrated to us, saying: Shayban narrated to us from Mansur from Rab'i ibn Harash from Kharashah ibn al-Har from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
When the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed at night, he used to say: "Bismika namutu wa nahya." And when he got up in the morning, he used to say, "Al hamdu li l-lahi al-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana, wa ilaihi-nnushur." كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا أخذ مضجعه من الليل قال : باسمك نموت ونحيا فإذا استيقظ قال : الحمد لله الذي أحيانا بعدما أماتنا وإليه النشور
Sahih al-Bukhari 7395
.

The Shaykh : His statement in this hadith:
When the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed at night إذا أخذ مضجعه من الليل
Sahih al-Bukhari 7395
The condition of "at night" restricts the lying down, so this is a remembrance from the specific remembrances for sleeping at night, as evidenced by his statement: He said:
Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba’dama amatana wa ilayhi’n-nushur (Praise is to Allah Who has given us life after taking it from us, and unto Him is the Resurrection). الحمد لله الذي أحيانا بعدما أماتنا وإليه النشور
Sunan Ibn Majah 3880Sahih (Darussalam)
Because the resurrection occurs at the beginning of the matter, just as people are resurrected on the first day of the Day of Resurrection.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : No, what we say is that as long as the original text is restricted, we do not apply it to the unrestricted case unless the evidence indicates so, in which case we say it is an exception to the general rule.
