The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on what is said when going to sleep and waking up. Hudhayfah and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:Riyad as-Salihin 1446 Al-Bukhari narrated it."
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on what is said when going to sleep and waking up". It is a blessing from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) upon us that Allah has prescribed for us dhikr (remembrance) when sleeping and waking, when eating and drinking, at the beginning and the end, and even when entering the place of relief and when dressing. All of this is so that our times are filled with the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If Allah had not prescribed this for us, it would have been a religious innovation. But Allah prescribed this for us so that His grace increases upon us through the performance of these acts of obedience. Among them is this hadith mentioned by the author from Hudhayfah and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with them both). "When he went to his bed," meaning when he went to his bed and intended to sleep, he would say: Riyad as-Salihin 1458. This is because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the Giver of life and the Taker of life. He is the Giver of life who gives life to whom He wills, and He is the Taker of life who takes the life of whom He wills. So you say: Riyad as-Salihin 1458 The connection of this dhikr to sleep is that sleep is death, but it is a lesser death, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-An'am 6:60]. And He the Exalted said: [Az-Zumar 39:42]. For this reason, when he would get up at night, he would say: Sunan Ibn Majah 3880Sahih (Darussalam). So he praises Allah who gave him life after death, and he remembers the resurrection, meaning from the graves, and the bringing out from the graves is to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So you remember that your resurrection from your sleep is like your resurrection from your major death, and you say: "Praise be to Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection." In this is evidence of the great wisdom in this sleep which Allah made a rest for the body from what has passed and an energizer for the body for what is to come. It also reminds one of the Hereafter. You are reminded by it that when you rise from your grave after your death, you will be alive to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And this increases your faith in the resurrection. Faith in the resurrection is a matter of great importance. If a person did not believe that he would be resurrected and rewarded for his deeds, he would not do them. For this reason, we find that Allah often pairs faith in the Last Day with faith in Him, as He the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah 9:44]. And there are many verses in this regard. So the important thing is that it is recommended for you, when you go to your bed, to say: Riyad as-Salihin 1458. And when you wake up, to say: Sunan Ibn Majah 3880Sahih (Darussalam). And success is from Allah.
