The Book of Faith-01a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Muhammad ibn 'Abbad and Sa'id ibn 'Amr al-Ash'athi both narrated to me from Ibn 'Uyaynah. Sa'id said: Sufyan narrated to us from Hisham ibn Hajjaj from Tawus, who said: This man—meaning Bashir ibn Ka'b—came to Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and began narrating to him. Ibn 'Abbas said to him: "Go back to the hadith of so-and-so." He went back to it, then he narrated to him again. Ibn 'Abbas said to him: "Go back to the hadith of so-and-so." He went back to it, then he said to him: "I do not know whether you knew all of my hadith and denied this one, or whether you denied all of my hadith and knew this one." Ibn 'Abbas said to him:
We used to narrate from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when no one used to lie about him. But when people began to take the difficult and the easy paths, we left narrating from him. إنّا كنّا نحدّث عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذ لم يكن يكذب عليه ، فلمّا ركب النّاس الصّعب والذّلول ، تركنا الحديث عنه
