The questioner : Her second question: She says, “We have heard that it is recommended to pray six rak'ahs or more after the Maghrib prayer, and that this is called the prayer of the returners. Was this prayer mentioned in any Prophetic hadith? And should I make it a habit to pray these rak'ahs? And if this prayer is not established by the Sunnah or if no hadiths are mentioned regarding it, is it recommended that I pray voluntary prayers without a specific time, or what should I do? Please inform us, O honorable scholars?”

The Shaykh : The Maghrib prayer has a regular voluntary prayer (rawatib) after it, which is two rak'ahs, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs after it. As for the six rak'ahs called the prayer of the returners, I do not know of any basis for them.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for praying voluntary prayers without a specific time between Maghrib and 'Isha', there is no blame on you for doing so, because all times that are not prohibited times for prayer are prescribed for praying voluntary prayers without a specific time.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : For prayer is a goodly thing, and increasing in it brings one closer to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). And Allah the Exalted has praised those who are constant in their prayers. So if you pray voluntary prayers without a specific time between Maghrib and 'Isha, even if the number is large, there is no blame on you for doing so.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
