The Book of Faith-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us, and Abu Dawud narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah said to me: "Go to Jarir ibn Hazim and tell him: It is not permissible for you to narrate from al-Hasan ibn 'Ammar, for he lies. Abu Dawud said: I said to Shu'bah: How is that? He said: He narrated to us from al-Hakam things for which I found no basis. I said to him: What specifically? He said: I asked al-Hakam: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pray over the slain of Uhud? He said: He did not pray over them. Then al-Hasan ibn 'Ammar said: Al-Hakam narrated to us, from Maqsim, from Ibn 'Abbas, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed over them and buried them. I asked al-Hakam: What do you say about the children of zina? He said: They are prayed over. I asked: From whose narration is this reported? He said: It is reported from al-Hasan al-Basri. Then al-Hasan ibn 'Ammar said: Al-Hakam narrated to us, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, from 'Ali".

The Shaykh : The correct view is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray over the slain of Uhud; rather, he buried them in their clothes, and they were not washed, nor was the funeral prayer performed over them. However, at the end of his life, he went out and prayed for them, but it was not the funeral prayer, because the funeral prayer is only performed at its proper time, before burial. Rather, he prayed for them, meaning he made a general supplication for them, and it was not a funeral prayer. This is the correct view in this matter.
