The questioner : This is a message we received from Jeddah from the sisters listeners, A.M.S., where each letter represents a questioner. They say in this message that wearing pieces of gold in the shape of a butterfly, a razor, or a heart, and so on, is it forbidden, given that one of the teachers says that this is shirk (associating partners with Allah)?

The Shaykh : Wearing pieces of gold in the shape of an animal is not permissible, because wearing images is forbidden, whether these images are in the form of shapes, as in the gold pieces mentioned by the questioners, or in the form of colors, as found in some T-shirts or fabrics with images of a butterfly, a person, or an animal. All of this is forbidden (haram) because using something that contains an image or using an image is forbidden, except for an image on something that is trampled or used, such as images on carpets, mattresses, and pillows, and the like. The correct view is that using them is permissible and there is no blame on one for doing so.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : They also have another question, which says or they say in it, wearing the light abaya that...

The Shaykh : A moment, please.

The questioner : Please go ahead.

The Shaykh : As for the statement of the female teacher that this is shirk (associating partners with Allah), it is not shirk in any way.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But it is a forbidden thing, as we said.

The questioner : The forbidden thing, if it is an image.

The Shaykh : Yes, it is.

The questioner : But something like a razor or similar, is there nothing wrong with it?

The Shaykh : A razor, you mean a razor?

The questioner : An image of a razor made of gold.

The Shaykh : A shaving razor?

The questioner : Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : Yes, there is nothing wrong with it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : There is nothing wrong with it, although I dislike it from the perspective that it points to or symbolizes a razor for shaving the pubic area and the like.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And anything mentioned in these matters, it is not befitting for a woman to adorn herself with it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
