Ruling on wearing a wristwatch and a gold ring for one in the state of ihram
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question in the letter from our brother Abdullah Ahmad Fadl al-Sayyid from the Democratic Republic of Sudan says: I request your guidance on whether it is permissible for a person in the state of ihram to wear a wristwatch or a gold ring. I also request your guidance on whether it is permissible for a person in the state of ihram to apply kohl. Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: As for wearing a gold ring, it is not permissible for a man, neither in the state of ihram nor outside of it. Gold is a characteristic of women. It is permissible for a woman to wear gold in the form of rings, bracelets, and necklaces. As for the man, he is not allowed to wear a gold ring. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited wearing a gold ring: Therefore, it is not permissible for him to wear gold.
As for the wristwatch, it is safer to leave it off. If it is not made of gold, leaving it off while in the state of ihram is safer. We do not know of any prohibition against wearing it in the state of ihram, because it is needed. If it is not made of gold or silver, there is no harm in wearing it due to the need for it. If he puts it in his waistband or in his lower garment to return to it later and leave it off, that is good, if Allah wills, as a precaution. This is because a person in the state of ihram is prohibited from wearing sewn garments and anything resembling them. This watch may resemble gloves, similar to leather socks in some respects. Therefore, leaving it off is a precaution:Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam) And if he wears it, we hope that nothing is required of him if it is not made of gold or silver. This applies to the man. As for the woman, there is no blame on her in this regard, whether the watch is made of gold, silver, or something else. Yes.
