The Fourteenth Example: The saying of the Exalted: {Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you are only pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is above their hands}.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"The Fourteenth Example: The saying of the Exalted:
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands.
[Al-Fath 48:10]
"

This is in the verse of the pledge of allegiance? Yes, the pledge of allegiance under the tree, and that was during the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah when it was rumored that 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was the envoy of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to Quraysh. He was killed, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) pledged allegiance with his companions to fight, and 'Umar returned and the treaty was carried out. Then these people who distort the meaning said that you interpreted the verse because Allah said:
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands.
[Al-Fath 48:10]
Its apparent meaning is that the hand of Allah the Glorious and Exalted is above their hands, and it is known that the matter is not so. So they interpret it to another meaning, an interpretation like our interpretation of the rest of the attributes to other meanings.
"And the answer is: It should be said that this verse contains two sentences. The first sentence is the saying of the Exalted:
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah
[Al-Fath 48:10]
And the Salaf, the people of the Sunnah, took it by its apparent meaning and its reality, and it is explicit that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were pledging allegiance to whom? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself, as in His saying:
Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree
[Al-Fath 48:18]
No one can understand from His saying:
they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah
[Al-Fath 48:10]
What is the beginning of the verse?
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you
[Al-Fath 48:10]
"Because it contradicts the beginning of the verse and reality, and it is impossible in the case of Allah Blessed and Exalted. But Allah mentioned that
they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah
[Al-Fath 48:10]
to confirm this pledge of allegiance, to confirm it, and that it is not a pledge of allegiance of a human to a human, but its reality is a human to the Creator, the Glorious and Exalted. Because Muhammad, what is he? The Messenger of Allah. So his pledge of allegiance is a pledge of allegiance to the One who sent him. And Allah the Exalted made the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) a pledge of allegiance to Him because he is His Messenger. And the Companions pledged allegiance to him for jihad in the cause of Allah. And pledging allegiance to the Messenger for jihad in the cause of Allah, in the cause of the One who sent him, is a pledge of allegiance to the One who sent him, because the Messenger is the one who conveys from Him. Just as, because the Messenger is the one who conveys from Him, just as obedience to the Messenger is obedience to the One who sent him, as He said:
He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah
[An-Nisa 4:80]
"
Now there is no doubt that the meaning of the verse is
they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah
[Al-Fath 48:10]
because they are pledging allegiance to the Messenger. There is no longer any doubt. The doubt is in His saying:
The hand of Allah is over their hands
[Al-Fath 48:10]
And it will be answered, if Allah wills. The second sentence is His saying. Good.
"And in attributing their pledge of allegiance to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to Allah the Exalted, there is an honoring of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), support for him, and confirmation of this pledge of allegiance and its greatness, and an elevation of the status of those who pledged, which is apparent and not hidden" All of this is clear except for His saying "elevation of the status of those who pledged." How was their status elevated? Because they made their pledge of allegiance a pledge of allegiance to Allah. And who is worthy of being pledged to Allah? We see that in this world, when a person greets the kings, he becomes noble and of high status. Yes. The second sentence will be in the next lesson. Yes.
