The Shaykh : He says: "I used to clarify that what is transmitted from the Salaf and the imams regarding the general statement of declaring as disbelievers (takfir) those who say such and such is—what is it?—it is also true—meaning what is transmitted regarding the general statement is true—it is also true, but it is obligatory to distinguish between the general statement and specific designation, until he said, until the end of it".
For example, it came in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he said:
Whoever cheats, he is not one of us. من غش فليس منا
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1315Sahih (Darussalam)
If someone cheats, do we say to this specific man that the Messenger has disavowed him? It may be that the cheating was due to an excuse, or ignorance, or something similar. Likewise
There is none amongst the bondsmen who was entrusted with the affairs of his subjects and he died in such a state that he was dishonest in his dealings with those over whom he ruled except that Paradise is forbidden for him. ما من عبد استرعاه الله على رعية يموت يوم يموت وهو غاش لرعيته إلا حرم الله عليه الجنة
Sahih Muslim 142a
.
Now, if a person brings the Dush (a type of entertainment or media) to his family and they witness the wrongdoings in it, whether doctrinal, moral, or religious, do we say that this man is now forbidden from entering Paradise? The answer is no, but we say that whoever cheats and dies while cheating his subjects, Allah has forbidden him from Paradise.
