The questioner : Her question, the third and final question of Sister Nawal al-Muhammadi from Riyadh: she says, “I am a woman who stands in prayer during the last hours of the night, as that is the best time for prayer, as you know. But the problem here is that I am overcome by some fears during the prayer. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and I recite the two chapters of protection (al-Mu’awwidhatan). Because of these fears, my mind turns to them and I become completely preoccupied, distracted from my prayer. Everything around me is quiet and still, and consequently everything seems to me [as if it were a threat]. I ask you, after Allah the Mighty and Majestic, to guide me to a way to get rid of these fears. May Allah guide you.”

The Shaykh : If the causes of these fears are apparent and sensory, then getting rid of them is by defending against them and staying away from them. If their causes are hidden and spiritual, then getting rid of them is by frequenting the remembrance of Allah, seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and reciting the Verse of the Throne (Ayat al-Kursi). For if a person recites it at night, a guardian from Allah will remain with him, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning. And if a person does not pay attention to these whispers and these fears, they will disappear from him by the permission of Allah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : I mean, reciting the Verse of the Throne and believing in its efficacy, meaning not just the recitation alone…

The Shaykh : Yes, yes. One must believe in it, because all the remembrances, supplications, and recitations for the sick that have been transmitted require belief in their benefit.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : As for the one who does it by way of experiment, this will not benefit him.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, gentlemen. That is all for now.
