The Shaykh : He said, and he states: "And the greatest and most eloquent light is what the heart attains through knowledge of Allah, His names, His attributes, and His actions, so it is necessary that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) must have explained it to the utmost extent of explanation". This is correct, but our capacity in this matter is limited. We do not conceive of this great light that is attained through knowledge of the names of Allah and His attributes, and that everything that occurs in the universe is a consequence of His names and attributes. If you wish to clarify something of this matter, you must review the book "Madarij al-Salikin" by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him). You will find a great matter: how Allah opened up to this man a knowledge of the implications of His names and attributes that dazzles the intellect. You say, "Glory be to Allah, all of this exists, and I am sleeping about it." Yes, it is a great thing. It reveals to you from the implications of these great names and these perfect attributes what does not even cross the mind, until it is as if a person, when he reviews this discourse of Ibn al-Qayyim and observes the universe, is as if he is glorifying Allah, glorifying in waves of light, forgetting everything in reality, because he looks at this universe in accordance with what? The names of Allah, His attributes, and His actions, and he finds the most amazing of wonders. And on this basis, the poet said:
"And in everything He has a sign *** indicating that He is One"
But you need a conscious, contemplative heart. Yes, we ask Allah to turn us in repentance. We contemplate when we break our fast and what we will eat for lunch, and when we have lunch, what we will eat for dinner. Yes, and when we leave this gathering, where are we going for the next gathering? But contemplation in the names of Allah, His attributes, and His actions, which are His cosmic signs, is a matter in which we are veiled, unless Allah wills. Yes, so the message of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) encompasses light and guidance. The greatest light is what is attained by what? By the heart, through knowledge of the names of Allah, His attributes, and His actions. Second, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his Ummah everything they need in matters of religion and worldly affairs. Correct? He taught his Ummah everything they need? Everything they need? Even in transactions? Yes, even in transactions. But this teaching is of two types: a type of specific teaching in a particular issue, and a type of general teaching in universal principles, because enumerating the details of issues is an impossible matter. It is not impossible with regard to Allah (Mighty and Majestic); with regard to Allah, Allah is All-Knowing of everything. But it is not possible for humans to comprehend it. What do you think if the Noble Qur'an had mentioned everything that will happen in the world and its ruling, how many volumes would the Qur'an be? Volumes that cannot be counted, and a person cannot comprehend them. But Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) made the Shari'ah of two types: a type where the ruling is specified regarding its particularity, and this is the thing in which people need its specific explanation,[Al-Ma'idah 5:3] [An-Nisa 4:23] and so on. This is clear. And another type is general, general principles, which do not pertain to a specific thing, and into which enter details that no one knows except Allah. And this latter type is what people differ greatly in, because it centers on understanding and knowledge of the rules and principles of the Shari'ah. Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 2249, 2250 Sunan Abi Dawud 3376Sahih (Al-Albani) What enters into this principle? Matters enter into it that no one can count except Allah. For example, social insurance; we know its ruling from this hadith. And Allah the Exalted said in the Qur'an: [Al-Ma'idah 5:90] "Maysir" is a general term by which we can know everything that happens of these gambling activities and the like. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What enters into this hadith? All actions, all actions, even for example the intention to make lawful what is unlawful in marriage, and even the intention to nullify the right of pre-emption in the suspension of the pre-emptor and others, from what you cannot grasp, from what you cannot grasp the details of.
