The Shaykh : He said: "And this meaning that Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and him) mentioned regarding the Kursi (Footstool) is the well-known one among the people of the Sunnah, and it is the one preserved from him. And what is narrated from him that it is knowledge is not preserved". It is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and him) that he said: [Al-Baqarah 2:255] And it appears that this interpretation is based on His saying, the Exalted: [Ghafir 40:7] and His saying: [At-Talaq 65:12] But this meaning has not been found in the Arabic language that the Kursi (Footstool) means knowledge; it has not been found. And if it is not found in the Arabic language, and the Qur'an was revealed in the language of the Arabs, then it is not permissible to interpret the Qur'an in a way that contradicts the Arabic language, because if we interpreted it in a way that contradicts it, we would take it out of the language in which it was revealed, and this is a transgression against the Qur'an.
"Likewise, what is narrated from al-Hasan that it is the 'Arsh (Throne) — that is, the Kursi (Footstool) is the 'Arsh (Throne), so he made them one thing. He says that it is — weak and not authentic from him, as stated by Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him)". So we have the 'Arsh (Throne) and the Kursi (Footstool); which of them is greater and higher? The 'Arsh (Throne). And they are not one thing, but rather they are two different things, and Allah knows best. Yes.
His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth
وسع كرسيه السماوات والأرضOur Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge
ربنا وسعت كل شيء رحمة وعلماso you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge.
لتعلموا أن الله على كل شيء قدير وأن الله قد أحاط بكل شيء علما"Likewise, what is narrated from al-Hasan that it is the 'Arsh (Throne) — that is, the Kursi (Footstool) is the 'Arsh (Throne), so he made them one thing. He says that it is — weak and not authentic from him, as stated by Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him)".
