Explanation of the author's statement: "And the Kursi (Footstool) in language is the bed and what one sits upon."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And the Kursi (Footstool) in language is the bed and what one sits upon", so the Kursi (Footstool) has two usages in language: the bed one sleeps on, and the second is what one sits upon, like the known chairs that are set up for teachers and the like. "As for the Kursi (Footstool) that Allah attributed to Himself", meaning in His saying, the Exalted:
His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth وسع كرسيه السماوات والأرض
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
"It is the place of His feet, the Exalted. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and him) said:
The Kursi (Footstool) is the place of the feet, and the 'Arsh (Throne) is such that no one can measure its magnitude except Allah, Mighty and Majestic. الكرسي موضع القدمين والعرش لا يقدر قدره إلا الله عز وجل
"
This hadith is mawquf (stopping at a Companion) with Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and him). Does it have the ruling of being marfu' (traced to the Prophet)?
The student: ... , no, it does not.

The Shaykh : Yes? Well, there is no room for ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) in this matter, as it is from the ... purely informational matters. However, Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and him) was known for taking knowledge from the Children of Israel, and on this basis, there remains some hesitation in the mind regarding this. But the acceptance of the scholars and their reception of it indicates that it is valid, for the Salaf (the earliest generations) took this hadith and relied upon it. In it is the statement that the Kursi (Footstool) is the place of the feet, which is the affirmation of the foot for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, which is true and has been established by the authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his saying:
it would continue to say: Is there anything more, until Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, would keep His foot there- in and some of its part would draw close to the other and it would say: Enough, enough لا تزال جهنم يلقى فيها وهي تقول هل من مزيد حتى يضع رب العزة فيها قدمه أو رجله فينزوي بعضها إلى بعض وتقول قط قط
Sahih Muslim 2848c
But the affirmation of the two feet, I do not know it except in this hadith, meaning the affirmation of two feet. I do not know it except in this hadith. As for the foot, it is established in Sahih al-Bukhari and others. But with this, we say that the affirmation of the two feet does not mean tashbih (likening Allah to creation) at all. It is like the affirmation of the face, the eye, and the self. Yes, it is not similar to the creation. We know this with certainty because we know through hearing that Allah is not like anything, and we know through reason that the created cannot be like the Creator ever. Therefore, similarity is prohibited, even in cases where the two meanings agree in wording, for the reality is different. Yes.
