Explanation of the author's statement: "This is because some of the Salaf interpreted Allah's presence with His creation as His knowledge of them, and this is an interpretation of presence by some of its necessary implications"

The Shaykh :"This is because some of the Salaf interpreted Allah's presence with His creation as His knowledge of them, and this is an interpretation of presence by some of its necessary implications", meaning that some of the Salaf of the Ummah, especially after the claim of the Jahmiyyah emerged that the intended meaning of presence is co-presence in place, began to interpret presence as knowledge. They say, "He is with them," meaning He is aware of them. They do not interpret it as true presence, but rather as knowledge. This is what led some of the later scholars in our time—and I think those who came before them did the same—to say, "How do you argue against us with our interpretation when you yourselves interpret?" We say, this is an interpretation of presence by some of its necessary implications.
"And their aim in doing so was to refute the immanence of the Jahmiyyah, who claimed that Allah is in every place by His essence, and who cited the texts of presence as evidence. These Salaf clarified that what is intended by presence is not that Allah is with us by His essence, for this is impossible both rationally and religiously, because it contradicts what is obligatory regarding His exaltation and necessitates that His creations encompass Him, which is an impossible matter". There is no doubt that this is a false meaning, and that whoever holds this belief about his Lord is a disbeliever. For if one believes that Allah is in every place, it necessarily follows either that Allah's essence is multiple or that it is divided. Otherwise? We say: If you claim that Allah is in every place by His essence, what necessarily follows from that? Either Allah is multiple, or Allah is divided, with a part of Him here and a part of Him there. This is impossible. This is in addition to the fact that this claim contradicts the evidence that is abundant in the transmitted, rational, and innate proofs that Allah the Exalted is above His Throne, exalted above all His creation. Then the author said, "Categories." Yes.
