Explanation of the author's statement: ". . . And the Book and the Sunnah have indicated its existence for Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Well, he says: "And the Book and the Sunnah have indicated its existence for Allah — the existence of the Face for Allah is indicated by the Book and the Sunnah — among the proofs from the Book is His saying, the Exalted:
And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
[Ar-Rahman 55:27]
"
The Face of your Lord remains. This comes after His saying
(26) Everyone upon the earth will perish, (27) And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
[Ar-Rahman 55:26-27]
. Some of the scholars of knowledge said: "It is recommended for a person to connect the two verses and say:
(26) Everyone upon the earth will perish, (27) And there will remain the Face of your Lord
[Ar-Rahman 55:26-27]
, in order to make clear thereby the difference between the Creator and the created"
. Because if you said
Everyone upon the earth will perish,
[Ar-Rahman 55:26]
and stopped, there would be no connection between the first and the second. But if you said
(26) Everyone upon the earth will perish, (27) And there will remain the Face of your Lord
[Ar-Rahman 55:26-27]
, it becomes clear thereby the perfection of ... the Creator and His distinction from the created.
His saying
And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
[Ar-Rahman 55:27]
, is "Possessor" an attribute of "Lord" or of "Face"? It is for the Face, Possessor of Majesty and Honor. And for this reason it came in the nominative case. But
Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty
[Ar-Rahman 55:78]
"Possessor" is an attribute of "Lord" and not of the name, because the one described with Majesty and Honor is Allah or the Face of Allah. And his saying
And the Face of your Lord will remain
, some of the ignorant and foolish people held that Allah perishes except His Face, and they cited as evidence for this His saying, the Exalted:
Everything will be destroyed except His Face
[Al-Qasas 28:88]
. But this is a great error, because Allah the Exalted does not praise Himself, or is not praised, by saying that He destroys except His Face. There is no praise in that. If a person were swallowed by the earth except the coccyx, the Face of Allah would be like what? Like the coccyx. And no one says this, may Allah protect us from it. But the Face is used to refer to the Essence. The Face is used to refer to the Essence, because the Face is the one described with Majesty and Honor. Yes. And the Face is the most noble thing in a person. For this reason, Allah referred to Himself by the Face and said
And the Face of your Lord will remain
, and said
Everything will be destroyed except His Face
[Al-Qasas 28:88]
. And some of the scholars, regarding His saying, the Exalted:
Everything will be destroyed except His Face
[Al-Qasas 28:88]
except what is intended for His Face, cited as evidence for this His saying, the Exalted:
And We will regard what they have done of deeds and make them as dust dispersed.
[Al-Furqan 25:23]
. He said: So everything that is not intended for the Face of Allah is perishing and lost. And the verse may be said to include both meanings.
As for His saying, the Exalted:
And to Allah belongs the east and the west. So wherever you [might] turn, there is the Face of Allah
[Al-Baqarah 2:115]
, the Salaf differed on it with two opinions: Some say: "The intended meaning of 'Face' here is direction", and they made the evidence for this His saying:
And to Allah belongs the east and the west
[Al-Baqarah 2:115]
. So these are two directions. So wherever you turn, whether to the direction of the East or the direction of the West, there is the direction of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Meaning, it is the direction that you were commanded to face. And it was said that the intended meaning of "the Face of Allah" in "there is the Face of Allah" is: "His true Face, and that a person, wherever he turns to the East or the West, Allah the Exalted accepts his face", as came in the authentic hadith:
That the Messenger, may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him, forbade the one praying to spit in front of his face, and he said: Indeed, Allah accepts his face.
. And this opinion is stronger, and the first opinion is correct. Because if a person is confused about the qiblah and prays in any direction, there is the direction that he was commanded to face. Yes.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : ... and the Mu'tazilah

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : ... what was transmitted ...

The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : ... for other than Him

The Shaykh : No, because it is well known that these are the styles of the Arabic language, and the Qur'an was revealed in the Arabic language. So when we say, for example, "And remains the Face of your Lord," there is no doubt that attaching the permanence to this thing or this specific attribute indicates that it is more perfect than the others. That is, attaching this permanence, which is an attribute of perfection, to this specific thing among the attributes of Allah indicates that it is better than the others, even without the door of analogy. But it is said that it is not intended, without doubt, that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, perishes and only His Face remains, or that He is destroyed and only His Face remains, because the Arabic language is broad and expresses such things. Yes.
