Explanation of the author's statement: "His veil is light; if He were to remove it, the radiance of His Face would consume whatever His vision reaches of His creation."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said, a third piece of evidence:
His veil is light; if He were to remove it, the radiance of His Face would consume whatever His vision reaches of His creation. حجابه النور لو كشفه لأحرقت سبحات وجهه ما انتهى إليه بصره من خلقه
His veil is light. He, (Exalted and Majestic is He), is light; His very essence is light, and His veil is light. So the veil is light upon light. If Allah, Mighty and Majestic, were to remove this great light, the radiance of His Face would consume whatever His vision reaches of His creation. "Subhat" means the brilliance, light, and majesty of the Face, which would consume whatever His vision reaches. The proof is His statement:
whatever His vision reaches of His creation. بصره من خلقه
Now, what about what His vision does not reach?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : How do you answer?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Do you answer? We say that His vision reaches everything, and thus the meaning is that the radiance of His Face would consume everything. However, out of His mercy, (Exalted and Majestic is He), and His wisdom, He veiled Himself from His creation with these luminous veils, which are great veils. For this reason, when it was said to the Messenger, (peace and blessings be upon him),
whether he had seen his Lord and received the reply, "He is Light; how can I see Him?" هل رأيت ربك ؟ قال نور أنى أراه
Mishkat al-Masabih 5659
meaning, "I am in such great light that I cannot see Him," and he said,
I saw a light. رأيت نورا
The scholars have differed on the meaning of this hadith. Some said, "
I saw a light. رأيت نورا
meaning, I saw Allah, because Allah is light"
, and some said, "
I saw a light. رأيت نورا
meaning, I saw the light with which Allah, Mighty and Majestic, veiled Himself"
. This is the closer view, because he was asked, "Did you see your Lord?" If he had seen Him, he would have said, "Yes, I saw Him." But to say, "I saw light," involves concealment and ambiguity in the answer. It is known that the Messenger of Allah, (peace and blessings be upon him), when he answered with something, would give a clear answer: yes, or yes.
