Is it permissible to be named 'Abd al-Nur?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, regarding what is attributed to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His saying:
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ
[An-Nur 24:35]
, some people name themselves 'Abd al-Nur. What is the validity of this name?

The Shaykh : The answer depends on the word "Nur" (Light). If "Nur" is one of the names of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), then it is permissible to attribute the servant to Him, and one may say 'Abd al-Nur. If it is not so—and this is what appears to me from the hadith in "Sahih Muslim":
His veil is light حجابه النُّور
—then that means light is a veil. As also came in another hadith:
If this veil were removed, the radiance of His Face would burn everything. لو رُفِعَ هذا الحجاب لَأحرَقَتْ سُبُحات وجهه كل شيء
. The point is that the word "Nur" is not a name of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but rather it is as He said:
His veil is light حجابه النُّور
; therefore, one should not worship by means of this word. This is what appears to us—and Allah knows best.

The questioner : How do we reconcile the hadith and the verse?

The Shaykh : The verse:
Allah is the Light اللَّهُ نُورُ
means He illuminated them. They mentioned in the tafsir: the Illuminator of the heavens and the earth.
