Continuation of the explanation of the author's statement: "And the doubt by which the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance argued is the stopping of most of the Salaf (the earliest generations) at (except Allah) in His saying, the Exalted:

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That the verses of attributes are among the ambiguous verses.
The student: The first one.

The Shaykh : What? The first one, yes, correct.
"The first: That the verses of attributes are among the ambiguous verses", and what is the ambiguous? The ambiguous about which Allah said:
As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is فأما الذين في قلوبهم زيغ فيتعون ما تشابه منه
[Ali 'Imran 3:7]
They said: And the verses of attributes are among the ambiguous.
"The second: That what is meant by the interpretation mentioned in the verse is diverting the wording from its apparent meaning to a meaning that contradicts the apparent meaning, so the conclusion is that the verses of attributes have a meaning that contradicts their apparent meaning, which no one knows except Allah". So
no one knows its [true] interpretation ما يعلم تأويله
[Ali 'Imran 3:7]
meaning: its meaning that contradicts the apparent, except Allah. And in that case, the verses of attributes are not on their apparent meaning, but they have an interpretation that contradicts the apparent, which no one knows except Allah. And the conclusion is that the meaning of the verses of attributes is not known. Why? Because their apparent meaning is not intended, but what is intended is the meaning that contradicts the apparent. Is this meaning that contradicts the apparent known or not known? Not known; no one knows it except Allah. This is the presentation of their argument with this noble verse. And we refute them.
