It is also said that some claim a woman's hijab does not include the face and hands, and they cite evidence that does not come to mind for me now, but they dispute me on this, so we ask for clarification so that we may get out of the dilemma we fall into when debating with them.

The questioner : It is also said that some claim a woman's hijab does not include the face and hands, and they cite evidence that does not come to mind for me now, but they dispute me on this, so we ask for clarification so that we may get out of the dilemma we fall into when debating with them?

The Shaykh : We say that just as the evidence does not come to mind for you, it is not possible for us to present it in this short timeframe.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But we say that the evidence for the obligation of a woman covering her face and hands is abundant. Among it is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests ولا يبدين زينتهن إلا ما ظهر منها وليضربن بخمرهن على جيوبهن
[An-Nur 24:31]
And among it is His saying, the Exalted:
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused يا أيها النبي قل لأزواجك وبناتك ونساء المؤمنين يدنين عليهن من جلابيبهن ذلك أدنى أن يعرفن فلا يؤذين
[Al-Ahzab 33:59]
And among it is also that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone of you (women) has a Mukatab, and he has enough (wealth) to pay off (his contact of manumission), she must veil herself from him. إذا كان لإحداكن مكاتب وملك ما يؤدي كتابته فلتحتجب منه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2520Hasan (Darussalam)
And among it is also the hadith of Aisha that she used to say: "We used to uncover our faces, meaning during ihram, but when we were level with the riders, we would lower our veils over our faces and cover them" The evidence is abundant, and multiple books have been written on this.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And whoever wants them, they are easily available, praise be to Allah. Among the most prominent who wrote on this is Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) in "al-Fatawa" and in "Tafsir Surat al-Nur" and in others.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
