The Evidence for the Obligation of Covering the Woman's Face

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We ask for clarification of the evidence that indicates the obligation of covering the face for women?

Answer:
Answer: The evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah: (And when you ask them for anything, ask them from behind a screen), and the screen (hijab) is what covers the woman, whether it is a garment, a wall, or a door. And His saying, the Exalted: (O Prophet, say to your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they may be known and not be harassed). The screen prevents the harm of the open sinners and hypocrites who desire them. If she covers herself, the open sinners and hypocrites do not desire her. If she uncovers herself, the open sinners and hypocrites desire her. Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the meaning of (bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments), so he took the end of his garment and placed it over his face, indicating that this is its meaning: covering the face. And 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a state of ihram, and when men passed by us, one of us would lower her head covering from her head over her face, and when they had passed, we would uncover it. This was in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his approval of it. So the screen, O brothers, Allah mentioned two benefits regarding it: The first benefit: That it is purification for the hearts: (That is purer for your hearts and their hearts), meaning that one of the Muslims, whether male or female, does not desire purification of the heart. The second benefit: That it prevents the harm of the hypocrites and open sinners and their desire for them. If she covers herself, they do not see her face and do not desire her. (That is more suitable that they may be known) means: they are known by their modesty, (so they will not be harassed), their desires for her are cut off. But if they see her uncovered and displaying her adornment, they desire her and harm her.
