The Shaykh : In this hadith, there are benefits:
Among them is: the use of free persons, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) employed Anas ibn Malik, who was a free man.
And among them is: a virtue of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), which is his service to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), for this is a virtue and an excellence for Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). And who is it that gets to serve the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him)?!
And among them is: the permissibility of assisting a person in his ritual purity, whether that is in purification from impurity (najasah) as in this hadith, or in purification from a state of ritual impurity (hadath) as in the hadith of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him): when he was pouring water over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for him to perform ablution with.
And among them is: the permissibility of cooperating in serving the noble ones, by his saying:Sahih Muslim 271a,
And here we say: Is the cooperation in this hadith that one of the two men has the water vessel and the other has the stick, or that they take turns with them, one taking them one time and the other another time? The apparent view is that the first is closer, so his saying:Sahih al-Bukhari 152 is distributed between the two men, and the meaning is not that each man carries both of them.
And among them is: preparing for what should be done, by his saying:.
And among them is: the emphasis on the barrier (sutrah) in prayer and when relieving oneself, the emphasis on the barrier in prayer and when relieving oneself.
And among them is: the permissibility of cleaning oneself with water without stones, because Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) did not mention that he was carrying stones with him, but rather he mentioned that he was carrying water, and the water was only for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to clean himself with. Accordingly, the hadith indicates the permissibility of restricting oneself to water in cleaning, although the indication in this is somewhat weak, but this is the apparent view: that they carried this for the purpose of cleaning with it.
Some of the Salaf disliked restricting oneself to water, and the reason for their dislike is: that if a person cleans himself with water, it necessitates that he touches the impurity with his hand, is that not so? Yes, by my life?
The student: Yes.
The Shaykh : Fine.
