The Shaykh : In this hadith, there are the following benefits:
First: The permissibility of wearing a ring. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) wore one and did not prohibit it.
If someone were to ask: Then why do you not say that wearing a ring is a recommended practice?
We say: We do not say that, because no element of worship is apparent in wearing it. Rather, the Prophet (peace be upon him) adopted it for a need. What is that need?
The official seal, as they say. So we say: If a person is a judge, a ruler, a minister, or holds a similar position, it is recommended for him to adopt a ring, following whom?
Following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and as you know, the operative cause for that.
As for the general public, it is permissible for them to adopt it. As for women, it is part of their adornment, and therefore wearing rings of gold, agate, and silver is permitted for them. As for men, it is not permissible for them to wear rings of gold, but it is permissible for them to wear rings of silver.
But if someone were to ask: What if we are in an era where only those who are obscure in the eyes of people and contrary to decency wear rings?
We say: If we are in such a time, it is better not to wear it, because a person should not expose himself to backbiting or expose himself to what people dislike in him or the like of that. A person must protect himself from harm and injury.
One of the benefits of this hadith is that one should not enter the place of relief with something containing the remembrance of Allah, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remove his ring when he intended to enter the place of relief.
If someone were to ask: What if a person fears that if he enters the restroom and leaves it there, it will be stolen, as happens in gatherings, in mosques, in the two sacred sanctuaries, and elsewhere?
The answer is: The matter is not one of prohibition such that we would say this leads to hardship. The matter is one of recommendation. And we said it is a recommendation because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not command it, but he did it. The isolated action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicates recommendation, not obligation. So, praise be to Allah, he takes it, removes it from his finger, and puts it in his pocket if he has a pocket. If he does not have a pocket, as if he is in the state of consecration for Hajj or 'Umrah, let him leave it as it is, and there is no blame on him.
One of the benefits of this hadith is the exaltation of what contains the remembrance of Allah to the extent that one does not enter the place of relief with it. And a fortiori, it should not be thrown in the streets or in dirty places, because the name of Allah the Exalted is the greatest of names. Especially the Name of Majesty by which no other is named, and likewise al-Rahman (The Most Merciful), Rabb al-'Alamin (Lord of the Worlds), and al-Malik al-Qahhar (The King, the Subduer), by which no one other than Allah is named; therefore, it must not be disrespected.
If someone were to ask: What do you say about a person entering the place of relief with a mushaf (written copy of the Qur'an)?
The answer is: The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) explicitly stated that it is forbidden for a person to enter the place of relief with a mushaf, because the greatness of the mushaf is greater than the mere greatness of the remembrance, meaning greater than the greatness of the remembrance alone. So it is not permissible to enter the place of relieving oneself with a mushaf.
If it is said: What if he fears that if he leaves it, it will be stolen?
We say: This is a pressing need, so he may enter with it for the sake of the need.
Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the intercession, the excellence, and the praiseworthy station that You have promised him. Indeed, You do not break Your promise.

Until the Messenger (peace be upon him) prohibited a man from disgracing himself by speaking of what is not possible.
