The Shaykh : We end the discussion here to begin a new lesson.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The Book of Prayer"
The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) mention, or designate, a "Book" for what encompasses various types, a "Chapter" for what encompasses a single type, and a "Section" for what encompasses specific issues. Our book encompasses what? It encompasses types: it includes the five obligatory prayers, voluntary prayer, the eclipse prayer, and the prayer for rain. So it encompasses types. Then he said: "Chapter on the Times" Let us first speak about prayer. There is no doubt that prayer is the most excellent and most emphasized of the pillars of Islam after the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Several matters indicate its virtue. First: Allah the Exalted made it obligatory upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) without any intermediary. We do not know of anything made obligatory upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) without an intermediary except the prayers. We do not know. Second: Allah made it obligatory in the highest place reached by humans, and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the seven heavens, in the seventh heaven. Third: He made it obligatory upon His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in his best night, which is the Night of the Ascension. So it gained the honor of the place and the honor of the time. Fourth: Allah made it fifty prayers, and this indicates His love for it (Blessed and Exalted is He), and that He loves for His servants to be constantly in prayer. Because if we prayed fifty prayers, it would occupy much of the time. And this indicates Allah’s love for it and His care for it. Fifth: There is nothing among the deeds of Islam whose abandonment is disbelief except prayer, as Abdullah ibn Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned. He said: "The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not consider any deed whose abandonment is disbelief except prayer"
Fifth, Sixth: It was made obligatory every day, every day. The obligatory acts, other than tawhid and the message, are not daily. Fasting is annual, Hajj is once in a lifetime, and zakah is annual. This also indicates Allah’s love for it and His care for it (Glorified and Exalted is He). Seventh: There is no act of worship in which a person is in direct communion with Allah except prayer. Prayer is a communion between you and your Lord. You say: "All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds," and Allah says: to the end of what you know. And this indicates its virtue. We continue. Yes, it is without... a number. I am afraid I will forget. And among its virtues is that prayer is not dropped under any circumstances. It is not dropped under any circumstances, even if some conditions are missed. Suppose a man is unable to perform wudu, unable to avoid impurity, and unable to face the qiblah, and the time for prayer arrives. He must pray in whatever state he is in. And among its virtues is that congregational gathering is not prescribed except in it and in Hajj. As for fasting, people are gathered by necessity because the month is one. And zakah, everyone pays their zakah at its time. We suffice with this amount.
