The Shaykh : He says: If he wants to appoint someone to be the imam or the mu'adhdhin, and the agent says, “There is no harm, on the condition that the salary is for me,” should we stop at this? It may be said that this is not permissible, because the work of this person clearly shows that he is seeking worldly gain. It may also be said that there is a benefit in this, which is blocking the door to these greedy people who take the salary and then appoint someone to lead the prayer or call the adhan for half the salary. The Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in his book on endowments, *al-Ikhtiyarat*, that this is consuming wealth by right. He said: “Those who consume wealth by right are people who delegate their work for a small amount and take what remains, because this is what they did—what did they do?” Yes. Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
