He said:
And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed for them ولما أن جاءَت رسلُنا لوطًا سِيءَ بهم
[Al-'Ankabut 29:33]
We say regarding
Lammaلَمَّا
as we said previously, and regarding his saying:
That they cameأن جاءت
thatأن
They say that it is extra for emphasis, and every extra letter in the Qur'an is for emphasis according to the context.
And when indeed Our messengers came to Lut ولَمَّا أنَّ جاءَت رسلُنا لوطًا
Meaning, the arrival of them to him was confirmed.
He was distressed by them سِيءَ بِهم
He grieved because of them. "
Si'aسيء
This is a past tense verb built for the passive voice... *si'a* because the past tense is dammed (vowelized with a damma) when built for the passive voice.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Defective, like *qila* and *bi'a*.
And break (kasrah) or mix (ishmam) the *fa* of a triliteral verb whose *ayn* is defective, and damma (damma) came like *bu'a*.
We know how to pronounce the pure kasrah and the pure dammah, so we say:
Si'a bihimسيء بهم
The author indicated, by his statement "by them," that
the letter ba indicates causality, meaning that misfortune befell him because of them. And Allah knows best. Yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : If it is
thatأن
and not
thatأن
, if it is, and if it is deleted and the speech remains correct, then it is extra... It is the norm when it comes after
Lammaلما
, according to what is in the Qur'an, that it comes as extra.
