Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And He the Exalted said:
And [We destroyed] Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
The author said: “We destroyed”, and this estimation is based on the context, meaning that the context indicates that there is something implied, which is
We destroyed
. Qarun was a merchant from the Children of Israel, but he—as Allah Mighty and Majestic said—transgressed against them. And Allah the Exalted gave him great wealth, so much so that the keys to his treasories were too heavy for a group of people to carry. These keys were the keys to the treasories. For this reason, he did not believe in Musa; he was deluded by his wealth, may Allah protect us from that, and he did not believe in his Lord. Pharaoh is well known; he was the king of Egypt who claimed to be the Lord and said:
I am your Lord, the Most High
. And Haman was his minister. Qarun was mentioned first because of his high lineage, as he was from the Children of Israel, and they are nobler than the Copts. Pharaoh was mentioned before Haman because of his higher rank over him. And His saying:
Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
If someone were to say: Is this order from the category of starting with the lowest? The answer is: No. If it were from the category of the lowest, it would have said: Qarun, Haman, and Pharaoh. Yes.
The student: ... some ... said: That Qarun had the most beautiful voice among the people regarding the Torah, and then he was deluded by it.

The Shaykh : We do not know about this if it is not brought by a text...
and Pharaoh and Haman. And Moses had already come to them
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
All these
Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
all of them do not take the tanwin; the preventer of the tanwin is...
The student: The 'ilmiah and the 'ajamah.

The Shaykh : The 'ilmiah and the 'ajamah, yes.
And indeed He had come to them ولقد جاءَهم
Before
Musa with the clear proofs
and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment].
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
“
And indeed He had come to themولقد جاءَهم
This sentence, as it passes us by often, is confirmed by three confirmers: the implied oath, the lam, and
Perhapsقد
. And His saying:
And indeed, there came to them ولقد جاءهم
Before
Musa موسى
before what? Before the destruction? Or before 'Ad and Thamud?
The student: Before...

The Shaykh : Yes,
Moses with clear proofs
So a clear sign indicating that he is a messenger is necessary. Therefore, he said "with clear proofs," meaning with the signs that are proofs. The author said: "The apparent arguments,"
for example, the staff, and the hand, and also the years by which they were afflicted, but despite this, they did not benefit. We ask Allah for well-being. He said:
and they were arrogant in the land
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
You know what happened between Musa and Pharaoh in terms of debate and threat, until the situation reached the point where he said, "I will surely make you among the imprisoned,"
and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment].
[Al-'Ankabut 29:39]
"So they did not overtake Our punishment," meaning they were not ahead of us; they did not precede us. Preceding means overtaking, so for example, if you race a person and he precedes you, meaning he overtakes you and you are unable to keep up with him. These people, despite their arrogance, greatness, and elevation, never overtook Allah Mighty and Majestic. As for Qarun, Allah caused the earth to swallow him and his house, and he remained in it until the Day of Resurrection, and neither the house in which he took refuge nor the wealth he hoarded benefited him. As for Pharaoh and Haman, Allah Mighty and Majestic drowned them with what Pharaoh used to boast about. He said to his people:
O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?
[Surah al-Zukhruf: 51], so He took him out of Egypt and destroyed him with the very thing he boasted about. He boasted about the rivers, so how was he destroyed? He was destroyed by water, so Allah destroyed him, and they did not overtake Allah Mighty and Majestic. Although when Pharaoh was being destroyed, he thought he would be victorious, because he sent through the cities those who gather, so they gathered the people and followed Musa and his people, thinking it was an easy matter, because they said, "He has nothing but the sea; either he will fall into the sea, or we will take them by force without any respite." So the matter, praise be to Allah, was the opposite: Allah destroyed Pharaoh and his people and saved Musa and his people. He, the Exalted and Exalted, said:
So all of them فكلًّا
from those who are mentioned
We took [retribution] for his sin
.
