The Story of Musa (peace be upon him) with Pharaoh.

The Shaykh : As for Pharaoh, and what do you know about Pharaoh! He is that tyrant, arrogant man who transgressed and denied Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He said to Musa: [Ash-Shu'ara 26:23], and he said to his people: , we seek refuge in Allah. He said to Haman, his minister: [Ghafir 40:36], meaning: a high building, [Ghafir 40:36-37], he said this in mockery, may Allah protect us, [Ghafir 40:37], and he lied in his statement: [Ghafir 40:37], because he knew that he was truthful, as Allah the Exalted said in his debate with Musa. Musa said to him: , . What is this "ta" for? It is for address, open O Pharaoh [Al-Isra 17:102]. He did not deny what was said: "I did not know." He remained silent in the place of challenge, and silence in the place of challenge and debate indicates being at a loss and having no answer. And Allah the Exalted said about him and his people: [An-Naml 27:14]: They, may Allah protect us, Pharaoh and his soldiers, knew that Musa was truthful, but they were arrogant and denying. What happened?
What happened to him, may Allah protect us, were defeats, the greatest of which was the defeat that befell the magicians. He gathered all the magicians in his land by agreement with Musa (peace and blessings be upon him), and Musa was the one who designated the time. Look, Musa, before Pharaoh, was the one who designated the time, even though Musa, before Pharaoh, was considered weak, were it not that Allah supported him and aided him. Musa said to him:[Taha 20:59], the Day of Adornment, meaning: the day of the festival, because the people adorn themselves on it, wearing ornaments, [Taha 20:59], they gather : It is not at night in secrecy, but at mid-morning. Pharaoh gathered all the magicians he had, the great magicians and their leaders, and they met with Musa (peace and blessings be upon him) and threw their ropes and their staffs. The ropes are known and the staffs are known. They threw them on the ground, and the whole ground became snakes, moving. They terrified all the people, even Musa felt fear in his heart. So Allah supported him and said: [Taha 20:68-69]: He threw what was in his right hand, one staff, only one staff: [Al-A'raf 7:117]. All the ropes and staffs were eaten by this staff, glory to Allah the Great. And they wondered where they went. The staff was not large enough to eat all this, but Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is Able to do all things. It devoured the ropes and staffs. And the magicians were the most knowledgeable people about magic, without doubt. They knew that what happened to Musa, or what came from Musa's staff, was not magic, but a sign from the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So the magicians threw themselves down prostrating. Look at the word: "threw themselves" (alqaw), as if this prostration became an impulse without consciousness. It did not say: "they prostrated," but "they threw themselves down prostrating," as if from the intensity of what they saw, they rushed forward without consciousness or choice, until they prostrated believing in Allah and His Messenger. [Al-A'raf 7:121-122]. Pharaoh threatened them and accused them, and he was the one who brought them. He said: [Taha 20:71]: Glory to Allah, he taught them magic, and you are the one who brought them. But stubbornness, may Allah protect us, makes a person speak without reason. He said: [Al-A'raf 7:124]: I will cut off the right hand and the left foot, [Taha 20:71]. What did they say to him? [Taha 20:72]: We will not prefer you to what we have seen of clear proofs. You are a liar, you are not a Lord. The Lord is the Lord of Musa and Harun [Taha 20:72]. Look at faith when it enters the hearts; the whole world became easy for them: [Taha 20:72], do what you want, : If you punish us, we will leave the world, [Taha 20:73]: because he forced them to come, to face Musa, [Taha 20:73]. O Allah, make us among the believers who are certain.
When faith enters the heart and certainty enters the heart, nothing can break it. Otherwise, they were the soldiers of Pharaoh; they were magicians and disbelievers at the beginning of the day, and at the end of the day, they were believers, righteous, challenging Pharaoh. They challenged him because of the faith that entered their hearts. This was a humiliating defeat for Pharaoh, but even so, he remained in his transgression.
In the end, he gathered the people, saying that he would destroy Musa. So Musa went out with his people fleeing from him, heading by the command of Allah toward the Red Sea, called the Sea of Qulzum, heading east, so that Egypt would be what? Behind him, to the west. He headed, and when he reached the sea, there was Pharaoh with his great soldiers and his strong armies behind them, and the sea in front of them.[Ash-Shu'ara 26:61]: The sea is in front of us and Pharaoh and his soldiers are behind us. Where shall we flee?! He said: , glory to Allah!! No, they will not catch you, [Ash-Shu'ara 26:62]. May Allah send prayers and peace upon him. This is the certainty of the messengers (peace and blessings be upon them) in difficult, critical situations. You find in them a certainty that makes the difficult matter, or what is thought to be impossible, an easy, simple matter: [Ash-Shu'ara 26:62]. So when he entrusted the matter to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), Allah revealed to him: "Strike the sea with your staff." The Red Sea. He struck the sea with his staff one strike, and the sea split into twelve paths, because the Children of Israel were twelve tribes, twelve tribes: the word "sibt" means tribe among the Arabs. There is no god but Allah. This sea became twelve paths. And how long did it take to dry up? In an instant. It dried up in an instant [Taha 20:77]: So Musa passed with his people in safety and security. The water between these paths was like mountains, as if it were a standing mountain. And you know that water is a flowing essence, but by the command of Allah, it stood like mountains. So much so that some scholars said: "Indeed, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) made a gap in every ridge of these waters, He made in them a space so that the Children of Israel could see one another, lest they think that their companions had perished and drowned", in order to reassure them. So when Musa and his people finished coming out, Pharaoh and his people entered. When they were all in, Allah commanded the sea to return to its state, so it closed over them. And the Children of Israel, from the intensity of their fear of Pharaoh, it occurred to them that Pharaoh had not drowned. So Allah displayed the body of Pharaoh on the surface of the water, he said: [Yunus 10:92]: Until they saw it with their own eyes and were reassured that the man had perished. So reflect, my brother, on these three nations who were at the height of transgression. How did Allah (Mighty and Majestic) take them, and He was waiting for them, and how were they destroyed by what they boasted of? He said: "Who is stronger than us in power?" They were destroyed by what? By the wind, a gentle, easy thing.
The people of Salih were destroyed by the earthquake and the shout.
Pharaoh was destroyed by water, by drowning. And he boasted of the water, saying to his people:[Az-Zukhruf 43:51-52], meaning Musa [Az-Zukhruf 43:52-53], so Allah the Exalted drowned him with water. So this is the summary of what this noble verse indicates: [Al-Fajr 89:14]. And allow us if we have prolonged this upon you, because the occasion requires it. And Allah knows best.
