Explanation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Say: Who is it that can protect you from Allah if He intends for you harm or if He intends for you mercy?”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And we say:
Say, "Who is it that can protect you from Allah if He intends for you an ill or intends for you a mercy?" قُلْ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَعْصِمُكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ سُوءًا أَوْ أَرَادَ بِكُمْ رَحْمَةً
[Al-Ahzab: 17]. The author said regarding the meaning of:
protect you يعصمكم
, that it means to protect you, but the correct view is that the intended meaning is
prevents you يمنعكم
, because *i'smah* is prevention, and from this comes *al-ma'sum*, meaning the one prevented from error. So the correct view is that
protect you يعصمكم
means He prevents you from Allah.
