Regarding the saying of the Exalted, “And those who were given knowledge will recognize that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth,” the difficulty with this is that some of those who were given knowledge consider this to be other than the truth.

The student : .......So what is the answer?

The Shaykh : Did you hear the brother’s question? He says that among the scholars, from those who were given knowledge, there are some who do not consider what was given to them from their Lord to be the truth. We say that this is impossible. Everyone who is given knowledge will recognize that what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought is the truth, but he may be obstinate, arrogant, and stubborn. This means that he is being stubborn in a matter where nothing applies except the sword if he deserves to be killed. Not everyone who is given knowledge must testify to the truth of what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought, because what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought is in accordance with reality, so one must know that it is the truth. And Allah the Exalted said regarding Pharaoh:
And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice and haughtiness وَجَحَدُوا بِهَا وَاسْتَيْقَنَتْهَا أَنْفُسُهُمْ ظُلْمًا وَعُلُوًّا
[Surat al-Naml:14] So they are certain of it and know that it is the truth, but they deny it. And the Mighty and Majestic said:
We know that you, [O Muhammad], are saddened by what they say. And indeed, they do not call you untruthful, but it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject.
[Surat al-An'am:33] Yes, indeed, from the benefits. Yes.
