Did he fabricate
with the hamzah of the interrogative opened, and it sufficed for it in place of the hamzah of connection. Did "af-tara" originally come from "a-af-tara"? But the hamzah of connection drops when it follows the hamzah of the interrogative. From this is His saying, the Exalted:
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
[al-Saffat:153]
Did He choose
meaning "a-astafa" (did He choose), so the hamzah dropped because it occurred after the hamzah of the interrogative. And I think its dropping is known, because the hamzah of connection drops in connected speech. So when the hamzah of the interrogative comes, the speech becomes connected, and when it is connected, the hamzah of connection drops.
So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship
[al-Mu'minun:27] Where did the hamzah of connection go in
Make
? It dropped because of the connection with "kana" (was). So
Did he fabricate
dropped because of the connection with "kana"
Did he fabricate a lie against Allah
in that, meaning in His saying, "Indeed, you will be resurrected and created anew." Is this a fabrication against Allah? Allah will make that clear. But they say his state is confined to two things: either a man fabricating against Allah,
Has he invented about Allah a lie or is there in him madness?
[Saba 34:8]
or madness, having imagined it. So they, and may Allah protect us from that, divided the state of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) into two states, with no third: fabrication against Allah, and second, madness.
or is there in him madness?
[Saba 34:8]
That is, madness by which he imagined it. Is there a third state? Yes, there is a third state, but they do not accept it, which is that he is truthful and sane. Truthful, he did not fabricate, and sane, he is not mad. This is the reality. But they, and may Allah protect us from that, dropped this third category because they do not accept it. And it is amazing that these who say of the Messenger (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) this description—that he is a fabricator, or a madman, or a poet, or a soothsayer, or the like—used to call him before the prophethood "al-Amin" (the Trustworthy) and considered him to be among the most truthful of people and the greatest in trustworthiness. But, and may Allah protect us from that, when he came with what did not suit their desires, they began to label him with these labels. And these bad labels that the polytheists gave to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are inherited by whom? They are inherited by the enemies of the believers and the allies of the criminals, as He, the Exalted, said:
(29) Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. (30) And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
[al-Mutaffifin 29:30] So these bad labels exist now; all enemies of the messengers label the allies of the Messenger with what the messengers were labeled. Do you know that it passed us in the creed that some people label the people of the Sunnah and the community with what? With "Hashawiyyah," "Nawabit," "Ghatha," "Mujassimah," and the like. All this is to turn people away from following their methodology. He says:
or is there in him madness?
[Saba 34:8]
