If I want to pray Witr in a continuous sequence, for example five or nine rak'ahs, is it permissible for me to recite al-Fatihah and a surah in each rak'ah? I ask for clarification.

The questioner : A woman asks: If I want to pray Witr in a continuous sequence, for example five or nine rak'ahs, is it permissible for me to recite al-Fatihah and a surah in each rak'ah? I ask for detailed clarification.

The Shaykh : Witr has types: its minimum is one rak'ah, then three. As for three, if one wishes, he may pray them in a continuous sequence with one tashahhud, or if he wishes, he may conclude the first two rak'ahs and then resume the third. If one prays Witr with five, he prays them all in a continuous sequence with one tashahhud. If one prays Witr with seven, he prays them all in a continuous sequence with one tashahhud.
If one prays Witr with nine, he prays eight in a continuous sequence, sits for the tashahhud, then stands for the ninth and does not conclude the prayer in the eighth. Then, when he finishes the ninth, he concludes the prayer. If one prays Witr with eleven, he prays two rak'ahs at a time and concludes with one rak'ah. This is the description of Witr.
In every rak'ah, he recites al-Fatihah and a surah, according to whatever surahs are easy for him.
