The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars, and as a protection from every rebellious devil, and they do not listen to the highest assembly))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then He, the Exalted, said
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars إنا زينا السماء الدنيا بزينة الكواكب
[As-Saffat 37:6]
to the end of the verses.
Among the benefits of these verses is the clarification that Allah the Exalted adorned the sky with these stars. Indeed, if you look at the sky on a clear night with no moon and no light around you, you will find in it a beauty that you cannot imagine, with the shining and the dim, some close to one another and some far apart, and of different shapes. This indicates the greatness of the Creator, Mighty and Majestic, and that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, made these stars an adornment for the sky. In them is also a benefit other than adornment, to which He alluded by His saying
and as a protection وحفظا
And in them is a third benefit other than protection and adornment, which is guidance
And landmarks. And by the stars they are [also] guided. وعلامات وبالنجم هم يهتدون
[An-Nahl 16:16]
So these stars have these three benefits. Yes.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the heavens are aligned, one lower than the other, by His saying
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven إنا زينا السماء الدنيا
[As-Saffat 37:6]
which indicates that there are heavens above them, and they are so.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the care of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, for His creation, where He adorned for them the ceiling above their heads. For if it had been dark and gloomy, with nothing shining in it, there would have been some unease in that. But Allah the Exalted cared for this and adorned it for them. In it is also the care of Allah from another aspect, where He protected the nearest heaven with these stars.
So if someone asks, what is the benefit of this protection? We say the benefit is so that the devils do not meddle with what descends from the sky of revelation, or so that the devils do not meddle by misleading the creation to disbelief and that they know the unseen.
And among the benefits of the noble verses is that the devils are rebellious, by His saying
against every rebellious devil من كل شيطان مارد
[As-Saffat 37:7]
based on the fact that the word "rebellious" is a descriptive attribute. If it is made a restrictive attribute, then it is evidence that among the devils there are some who are rebellious and some who are less so. The verse is ambiguous in that "rebellious" could be a description of every devil, and it is ambiguous in that it could be a description of some of the devils, with some of them not being rebellious.
And among the benefits of the verses is that these devils do not listen to the highest assembly with complete listening such that they attain their desire. How? Because of these shooting stars that burn them, so none of them is able to listen with complete attention to the highest assembly as a person listens to his shaykh or to his speaker. Rather, you find them coming to the sky snatching, snatching what they hear without there being a pause or deliberation, because they fear the shooting stars.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the devils are bodies, by His saying
but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]. فأتبعه شهاب ثاقب
[As-Saffat 37:10]
because nothing is pierced or burned except what is a body. And so it is, for the devils are bodies, but they are subtle bodies that penetrate dense bodies, the bodies of humans. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
The devil flows in a man like his blood. إن الشيطان يجرى من ابن آدم مجرى الدم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4719Sahih (Al-Albani)
Just as the soul runs through the body like blood, and the soul is a subtle body, so the devils are subtle bodies that penetrate heavy or dense bodies.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, may grant these subtle bodies the ability to reach the sky, is that not so? By His saying, "except whoever snatches a snatch." And there is no doubt that they may reach the sky, and that they have of strength what is stronger and more severe than the strength of humans who have dense bodies. Have you seen what Sulayman said?
which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?" (39) A powerful one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place أيكم يأتيني بعرشها قبل أن يأتوني مسلمين قال عفريت من الجن أن آتيك به قبل أن تقوم من مقامك
[An-Naml 27:38-39]
And he had a specific time at which he would rise from his place, so he said,
I will bring it to you before you rise from your place أنا آتيك به قبل أن تقوم من مقامك
[An-Naml 27:39]
meaning before the time comes at which you rise. And Sulayman was in Sham, and the throne of the Queen of Saba was in Yemen. He says,
I will bring it to you before you rise from your place, and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy." (40) Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture آتيك به قبل أن تقوم من مقامك وإني عليه لقوي أمين قال الذي عنده علم من الكتاب
[An-Naml 27:39-40]
And the one who called upon Allah the Exalted with what he called upon Him with,
I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you. أنا آتيك به قبل أن يرتد إليك طرفك
[An-Naml 27:40]
meaning before you extend your gaze and then withdraw it. Because what the angels bring, and the angels are stronger than the devils, is why he saw it immediately. When he saw it settled with him,
He said, This is from the favor of my Lord قال هذا من فضل ربي
to the end of it. The important point is that the devils have the ability and strength to reach the sky, and the One who gave them this ability and strength is Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Good. He says, and among the benefits of the noble verse is the virtue of the angels, where they are described as the highest assembly due to the elevation of their place and their status. In it is the physical elevation and the spiritual elevation.
And among the benefits of the noble verses is that the shooting stars with which the devils are cast come to them from every side. So to whichever direction they try to flee, they find the shooting stars. It is not necessary that these shooting stars gather upon them; rather, it may be one shooting star that comes to them from one direction. But if they try to flee, a second shooting star comes to them, and so on. Whichever direction they try to flee from, they will find the shooting star. He said,
and are pelted from every side, ويقذفون من كل جانب
[As-Saffat 37:8]

And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the devils are not worthy to enter the sky or to sit in it or to approach it. For this reason, they are cast out to drive them away.
driving away دحورا

And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the devils are accountable, that punishment falls upon them and that reward is attained for them. Punishment falls upon them that is permanent, by His saying
and for them is a constant punishment, ولهم عذاب واصب
[As-Saffat 37:9]
meaning permanent.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the devils may bring news from the sky, by His saying
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft إلا من خطف الخطفة
[As-Saffat 37:10]
But someone may say, Allah said,
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft إلا من خطف الخطفة
[As-Saffat 37:10]
Then He said,
but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]. فأتبعه شهاب ثاقب
[As-Saffat 37:10]
And at that time, he does not attain his desire. The answer is that other texts have indicated that he may attain his desire, so he reaches the fortune-teller before the shooting star overtakes him.
