The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Or is he who stands in devotion during the hours of the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord? Say: Are those who know equal to those who do not know? Only those of understanding will be reminded.”

Then Allah the Exalted said: [Az-Zumar 39:9] to the end of it. Among the benefits of this verse is that the Noble Qur'an opens for the human being the path of rational deduction, meaning that it presents things in a rational manner, and that {may Allah have mercy on you} is by demanding reflection and comprehension. For example, who is the one who stands in devotion and who is the one who disobeys? Simply put, if the state of this one and the state of that one are presented to a person of reason, what will he say? He will say: They are not equal. The one who stands in devotion during the hours of the night is not like the one who disobeys. This is one of the methods that a student of knowledge should adopt as a path to silencing the opponent during a debate, because many opponents may not be convinced by the evidential report alone, so we present to them the theoretical evidence, especially in the present time where many people—if I do not say most of them—have taken the path of Iblis as their way, which is opposing the heard texts with what they consider to be reason, meaning opposing the texts with what they think is reason. And we know, with the certainty of knowledge, that there is nothing in the texts that contradicts clear reason, ever. Rather, in the texts there is what supports it, what? Clear reason. And this serves as a witness for this, each of them strengthening the other. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in *al-Nuniyyah* that we have four pieces of evidence, all of which witness for one another: the Book, the Sunnah, reason, and the fitrah (the innate natural disposition). These four pieces of evidence cannot contradict or conflict with one another; rather, some of them support and witness for the others. And Allah knows best. Yes.
