Continuation of the benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (( ... and he set up rivals for Allah to mislead from His path. Say: "Enjoy your disbelief for a little while. Indeed, you are among the companions of the Fire" )) .

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has no rival, because Allah refuted those who set up rivals for Him. Thus, this serves as a refutation of the people of likening (tashbih) who affirmed the attributes for Allah along with likening. They said: "Allah the Exalted has a face like our faces, a hand like our hands, an eye like our eyes, and a leg like our legs, and so on." We say: Your speech is a lie, and you are the same as the people of negation (ta'til), because you have negated the text from its correct meaning. The meaning of the texts regarding the attributes of Allah is attributes befitting Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So when you made them into likening, you distorted them. Accordingly, the verse is a refutation of whom? Of the people of likening who affirmed the attributes for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) along with likening. We say: This action of yours is, in reality, negation (ta'til). Negation of what? Of the correct meaning of the text, because the meaning of the text regarding the attributes is attributes befitting Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that these disbelievers strive to mislead people through their action, as indicated by His saying:
to mislead [people] from His way
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
to misleadلِيُضِلّ
on the reading with the damma
to mislead [people] from His way
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
.
Among its benefits is that just as imitation occurs through speech, it also occurs through action. How is that? Because this disbeliever set up rivals for Allah, and his setting up of rivals was a cause for the misguidance of others.
Branching from this is a benefit, which is the warning of a person—and especially a role model—against deviation. A warning to a person—and especially a role model—against deviation, because people will imitate him and argue with his action. Do you understand? For example, if a student of knowledge stands for prayer and moves a lot, moves a lot, sometimes scratching his head, sometimes scratching his back, sometimes scratching his belly, sometimes rubbing his eye, sometimes looking at his watch, and sometimes writing down what he remembers in his prayer, if this student of knowledge does this, then people will imitate him. If one of the people is rebuked for excessive movement, he will say: "So-and-so does it." Therefore, sometimes we rebuke some people for usurious transactions involving stratagems, and they say: "So-and-so does this," referring to someone from among the students of knowledge. People argue with this, and this verse indicates that imitation occurs through action, as indicated by His saying:
and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
And this indicates: imitation through action is like [imitation through] speech. Now, as for the reading with the fatha, a benefit is derived from it, which is that setting up rivals for Allah is misguidance, as indicated by His saying:
to mislead [people] from His way
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the threat to these disbelievers who took rivals besides Allah. Do you take it, Rashid?
The student:
Say, “Enjoy [your life] قل تمتع

The Shaykh : From His saying:
Enjoy your disbelief for a little
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) clarified the description of this enjoyment, saying:
but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat
[Muhammad 47:12]
the beasts
and the Fire will be a residence for them.
[Muhammad 47:12]
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the worldly life, however long it is, is little and cannot be compared to the Hereafter. Therefore, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
[Ad-Duhaa 93:4]
He says to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and He says to the general public:
(16) But you prefer the worldly life, (17) While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
[Al-A'la 87:16-17]
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And the space occupied by the whip of one of you in Paradise is better than the world and what is on it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1664
From the world, which world? All of it, from its creation to the Hour, with all its decorations, amusement, and adornment, is better than the world and what is in it. Therefore, He said: "Enjoy for a little while." So this enjoyment for the disbeliever, even if he attains his desire, is little in time, little in quantity, and little in quality.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the disbelievers are constant in the Fire and do not come out of it.
The student:
The companions of the Fire

The Shaykh : As indicated by His saying:
The companions of the Fire
Because a companion is constant, and the constant one.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is addressing a person with what befits his condition. So this stubborn disbeliever who changed the favor of Allah into disbelief is addressed with this harsh address, which is?
Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." تمتَّعْ بكفرك قليلًا إنك من أصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
Whereas, if the matter were a matter of calling to Islam, we would not have met him with this response. We do not say to the one we are calling to Islam: "Enjoy your disbelief for a little while. Indeed, you are among the companions of the Fire." But we say it to whom? To one who was stubborn, arrogant, and changed the favor of Allah into disbelief.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is affirming the Fire, as indicated by His saying:
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنك مِن أصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
And it is obligatory upon us in affirming the Fire two things: The first: affirming its existence now and that it exists. For the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown Paradise and the Fire was shown to him in the prayer of the eclipse, and he witnessed it and saw those who are being tortured in it. He saw in it a woman being tortured by a cat she had kept until it died, and he saw in it the owner of the goad being tortured. The owner of the goad is a man with a goad. Do you know the goad?
The student: ... a stick

The Shaykh : It is called a "mihjan" in our colloquial language. A "mihjan" is a stick with a bent head. This man passes by the pilgrims and hooks the luggage of the pilgrim with the head of the goad. If the owner of the luggage notices it, he says: "By Allah, this is the goad." The goad held it. Forgive me, he might say: "Forgive me," or he might not say it, but some people might say it like this. And if he does not notice it, he takes it. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him being tortured in the Fire with his goad while he was praying the prayer of the eclipse. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed, delaying out of fear that the blast of the Fire would affect him. So his seeing it was sensory. Now, this is one thing. The second thing: We must believe that the Fire is eternal, eternal for the ages of ages, and its people are being tortured in it, and they are not going to come out of it, and it is eternal and permanent. Because Allah the Exalted mentioned its eternity in three places in the Qur'an: The first place is in Surat al-Nisa, the second place is in Surat al-Ahzab, and the third place is in Surat al-Jinn. And the guidance of Allah clarifies for us the first place in Surat al-Ahzab?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : In Surat al-Nisa, my intention?
The student: Right, what?

The Shaykh : That Allah mentioned that the Fire is eternal?
The student:
Indeed, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared
[Al-Ahzab 33:64]

The Shaykh : No, no, no, in Surat al-Nisa.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, no.
The student: His saying the Exalted:
And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits
[An-Nisa 4:14]

The Shaykh : No.
Indeed, those who disbelieved and wronged—Allah will not forgive them nor guide them to a path, 168 But only the path to Hellfire, wherein they will abide forever

The Shaykh : Well done, perfect. This is explicit
. Now, the second place in Surat al-Ahzab, who?
The student: His saying the Exalted: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَعَنَ الْكَافِرِينَ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ سَعِيرًا 64 خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا لَا يَجِدُونَ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا Indeed, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a blazing Fire, 64 Wherein they will abide forever. They will not find any protector or helper.

Indeed, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a blazing Fire, in which they will abide forever, finding neither a protector nor a helper. The third place in Surat al-Jinn?
The student:
And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein
[Al-Jinn 72:23]

The Shaykh : Where is the eternity?
The student:
And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger
[An-Nisa 4:14]

The Shaykh :
then for him is فإنَّ له

The student:
that for him is the fire of Hell
[At-Tawbah 9:63]

The Shaykh : Yes, where is the eternity?
The student:
wherein they abide forever
[An-Nisa 4:57]

The Shaykh :
wherein they abide forever
[An-Nisa 4:57]
Perfect. After this, we cannot accept a statement from any scholar that the Fire is not eternal, and we do not meet this explicit text with analogies, because His saying the Exalted:
My Mercy has preceded My Anger.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7453
This is a correct, decisive text and a true report, but the report can be specified. So we say: The people of the Fire are not worthy of mercy, and the punishment of Allah for them in eternity is from the perfection of His justice and wisdom, from the perfection of justice and wisdom. Just as they spent their lives in disbelief for the whole of the worldly life, they spent it in disbelief, so the Hereafter also passes for them in retribution and punishment. This is justice and this is wisdom, is it not? We say: Your life in the world has all passed in disbelief, it passed in disbelief. So your life in the Hereafter passes in retribution and punishment. You have no life in the Hereafter, just as you had no life in the world by obeying Allah. The time is not over, Shaykh.
Yes, he says: Among the benefits of the verse, yes
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنك من أصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
