Continuation of the commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: “(to misguide) with the yā’ opened and closed (from His path) the religion of Islam (Say: Enjoy your disbelief for a while) the remainder”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And His saying:
to mislead [people] from His way ليضل عن سبيله
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
The author said:“the religion of Islam” This is an interpretation of the word by its intended meaning, because the interpretation of the Qur’an is sometimes a linguistic interpretation and sometimes a semantic interpretation. Linguistic interpretation is explaining the word by its literal meaning, and semantic interpretation is explaining the word by what is intended by it. For example: “the religion of Islam” does not match the literal meaning of
Path
, because in the language, *sabil* (path) is the road. *Sabil* is the road; this is in the language. If you were told: interpret *sabil*, you would say: it means a road. But the *sabil* intended here is the religion of Islam; the intended meaning is the religion of Islam, because the religion of Islam, which is the ordinances of Islam, leads to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and He is the One who established it, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). So the author interpreted *sabil* here by the intended meaning, meaning that what is intended by it is such and such. And his saying: “the religion of Islam” makes it clear that it is the path of Allah, because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the One who legislated it, and because whoever follows it is led to Allah. Allah the Exalted said: “
Enjoy your disbelief for a little
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
the remainder of your life
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنَّك مِن أصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
”
I seek refuge in Allah.
Sayقل
The address is to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is possible that the address—O beloved—is to everyone?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : To whom the address is valid, meaning: Say, O human being, to this disbeliever or to this person described with these attributes:
Enjoy your disbelief for a little
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
,
Enjoy your disbelief for a little
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
This is a command, but it is not to be taken at face value; rather, the command here is intended as a threat, like His saying, the Exalted:
so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve
[Al-Kahf 18:29]
It is known that a person is not given the choice between faith and disbelief, but this is in the category of threat. So here,
Enjoy your disbelief for a whileتمتَّع بكفرك قليلًا
does not mean that we permit him to enjoy his disbelief or that we command him to enjoy his disbelief, but what? We threaten him. So the command here is for the purpose of threat. If someone were to ask: Who took it out of its original meaning? The answer is: The context took it out of its original meaning,
Say, "Enjoy your disbelief قل تمَتَّعْ بكفرك
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
meaning: Disbelieve and enjoy your disbelief, because the disbeliever enjoys his disbelief as beasts enjoy, as He said, the Exalted:
but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.
[Muhammad 47:12]
So the disbeliever—and I seek refuge in Allah—does not restrain himself with worship, neither prayer, nor zakah, nor fasting, nor Hajj, nor anything else of the acts of worship. Rather, he has followed his desires and enjoyed himself as a donkey enjoys. And in the end, he said:
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنك من اصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
Like His saying, the Exalted:
enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.
[Muhammad 47:12]
And how quickly he will reach the Fire, because this world is little. “The world is little” means a short time; however long your life may be, when your term comes, it will be as if you had not stayed but an hour of the day. And if you wish to verify this, consider what has passed of your life compared to what remains. Consider what has passed now; all of us differ in age from one another, but all of us are as if we were born at this very hour, meaning that everything that has passed is as if it had not been. So it will be with the remainder of life; however long a person’s life may be, when his term comes, it will be as if it had not been. And for this reason, he said:
Enjoy your disbelief for a little
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
Even if your life is long. He says: “the remainder of your life
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنك من أصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
”
This sentence is confirmed by
Indeedإن
, meaning: And however much you enjoy, your end is the Fire.
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنك من اصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
And “the companions of the Fire” is a term applied only to those who will be eternalized in it. So the believing sinner, even though he deserves the punishment of the Fire, is not called one of the companions of the Fire, because the original meaning of companionship is prolonged association. This is the original meaning of companionship: prolonged association, except in one issue. What is it?
The student: The Companions

The Shaykh : Of whom? The Companions. The Companions with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). If a believer who believes in him meets the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for even a moment, he becomes one of his Companions. Yes. He says:
indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire." إنك من اصحاب النار
[Az-Zumar 39:8]
The Fire is the abode that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has prepared for the disbelievers. And Allah the Exalted has made clear in the Book, and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has made clear in the Sunnah, the types of punishment in it.
Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise.
[An-Nisa 4:56]
And Allah the Exalted said: Indeed, the tree of Zaqqum is the food of the sinful. It is like molten brass, boiling in the bellies, like the boiling of scalding water. Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire. Then pour over his head from the punishment of scalding water I seek refuge in Allah. It is poured over his head from the punishment of *hamim*, the hot water of intense heat. 49 Taste! Indeed, you are the Mighty, the Noble And this is in the category of mocking him,
[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble! إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ
[Ad-Dukhan 44:49]
meaning: Where is your honor and where is your generosity? In this world, he sees himself as a noble master, but in the Hereafter, he is humiliated to this degree of humiliation. The important thing is that the types of punishment—and I seek refuge in Allah, we seek refuge in Allah from the Fire, we seek refuge in Allah from the Fire, we seek refuge in Allah from the Fire—the types of punishment in the Fire are something—and I seek refuge in Allah—that if a person imagines it, he will realize the severity of the severe punishment these people will face.
