The questioner : He says: I am always daydreaming and thinking, always, even during the prayer and reading the Qur'an sometimes. Sometimes half of the Friday sermon passes by while I am thinking, and I do not know what the imam said in the sermon, and I do not know what to do. Is there a sin on me or not? Please advise us, may Allah reward you all with good?
The Shaykh : We say: It is obligatory for the one who attends Friday prayer to listen to the imam's sermon, and it is not permissible for him to be preoccupied with listening to it by talking or anything else. These obsessions, worries, and thoughts that occur to you in this state are from Satan to prevent you from the remembrance of Allah. Indeed, Allah the Exalted says:[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9] It is obligatory for you to try, as much as you can, to get rid of this matter so that you can turn to your worship while at ease, not distracted, and listen to the sermon and benefit from it. Do not be like those about whom Allah the Exalted said: [Muhammad 47:16] Rather, listen, pay attention, reflect, and think about the meanings of what the preacher says, so that you benefit from this weekly sermon which Allah the Exalted made obligatory and made obligatory to strive to attend.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.

And among them, [O Muhammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?"
The questioner : Yes.
