Evidence for the Establishment of the Resurrection and the Last Day.

Why? Because it is indicated by revelation, it is indicated by reason, and it is indicated by the innate disposition. And we say: Is it indicated by the consensus of the Muslims? Yes, it is indicated by the consensus of the Muslims, the Jews, the Christians, and every person who follows a religion. There is no set of evidence that agrees in this manner on anything like the belief in the Last Day. For this reason, He said:
There is no doubt in it لاريب فيه
. It is indicated by the Book; I think the indication of the Book is clear, yes? It is indicated by the Book in numerous verses that cannot be counted, and it is indicated by the Sunnah as well through many hadiths that cannot be counted. And it is indicated by reason. It does not merely indicate its possibility, but it indicates its necessity, and this is what is intended here. How does it indicate its necessity?
Indeed, [O Muhammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur'an will take you back to a place of return إن الذي فرض عليك القرآن لرادك إلى معاد
[Al-Qasas 28:85]
It is not possible for Him to leave you in vain. What is the benefit in a Qur'an being revealed, messengers being sent, and blood being shed for those who oppose, if the result is nothing? If there is no benefit, then there must be a Day in which people are recompensed for these deeds. So reason indicates that we must surely be gathered before Allah (Mighty and Majestic), that we will be recompensed for our deeds, and that it is not possible for the heavens and the earth to be separated, messengers to be sent, and books to be revealed, only for the result and the goal to be that we are left on the earth and do not return. There must be a return. For this reason, we say that reason indicates what? It indicates the existence of the Last Day and its occurrence, and that it must surely occur.

The Shaykh : And what did we say also indicates it?
The student: The innate disposition.

The Shaykh : For if a person is left to his innate disposition, he would know that he has a Lord who will recompense him, and that the recompense will be in the Hereafter and in this world. And it is indicated by consensus. The consensus of the Muslims is a continuous matter known by necessity from the religion. Indeed, it is the consensus of the Jews and the Christians as well, for even the Jews and the Christians believe in the Last Day. For this reason, to this day, when one of them dies, they pray for him and supplicate for mercy and forgiveness for him, because they believe in the Day of Reckoning. But in any case, they believed but were deprived of the benefit of belief, for they did not believe in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So their belief in this Day was an argument against them, not for them.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
(9) Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise." (10) Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah at all. And it is they who are fuel for the Fire. (11) [Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is severe in penalty. (12) Say to those who disbelieve, "You will be overcome and gathered together to Hell, and wretched is the resting place." ربنا إنك جامع الناس ليوم لاريب فيه إنك لا تخلف الميعاد، إن الذين كفروا لن تغني عنهم أموالهم ولا أولادهم من الله شيئا وأولئك هم وقود النار كدأب آل فرعون والذين من قبلهم كذبوا بآياتنا فأخذهم الله بذنوبهم والله شديد العقاب، قل للذين كفروا ستغلبون وتحشرون إلى جهنم وبئس المهاد
[Ali 'Imran 3:9-12]
