Continuation of the exegesis of the verse: (( ... and those who seek forgiveness in the last hours of the night )) .

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
and those who seek forgiveness in the last hours of the night والمستغفرين بالأسحار
The ones who seek forgiveness are those who ask for the forgiveness of Allah, and forgiveness is: covering the sin and passing over it, derived from *ghufr* which is covering with protection, and from it is the *mighfar* (helmet) that is placed on the head in war, for it combines covering and protection. And His saying:
in the last hours of the night بالأسحار
The *ba* here indicates temporal or locative context, meaning in them, and *al-As-har* is the plural of *sahar*, which is the end of the night, meaning they ask for forgiveness at this time of the day, at the end of the night. Why? First: because it is the time when Allah, Mighty and Majestic, descends to the lowest heaven, for Allah the Exalted descends to the lowest heaven when one-third of the night remains, and He says:
Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? من يدعوني فأستجيب له من يسألني فأعطيه من يستغفرني فأغفر له
Sahih al-Bukhari 1145
, and secondly, it is the time when they are free from *tahajjud* and work, and a person is required to seek the forgiveness of Allah when he is free from worship, and for this reason it is prescribed for us to seek the forgiveness of Allah the Exalted three times after the prayer, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted, commanded us to seek forgiveness in Hajj when?
Then depart from the place from where [all] the people depart and ask forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. ثم أفيضوا من حيث أفاض الناس واستغفروا الله إن الله غفور رحيم
[Al-Baqarah 2:199]
Likewise, also at the end of the night after *tahajjud*, the one who performs *tahajjud* asks Allah for forgiveness, and this, meaning asking for forgiveness after finishing the worship, contains the perfection of humility before Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and that a person does not become proud of his knowledge, but rather fears falling short in it, so he seeks forgiveness for any deficiency or shortcoming from him in this worship.
